Fishing Lures that Resemble Arapaima for the Bolivian Amazon
When we head to the Cano Negro Lodge in the Bolivian Amazon later this year, my number one goal is to land an arapaima -- the world’s largest scaled freshwater fish. These prehistoric giants can top 400 pounds, and while I strongly suspect they don’t grow huge by pushing the plate away and might include their own young in their diet. If that’s the case – of if other jungle fish like payara and redtail cats like to eat baby arapaima, I want to be prepared.
To prepare, I’ve rounded up a collection of fishing lures that are inspired by, resemble, or are named after arapaima (also called pirarucu or paiche). Some are rare collector’s pieces, while others are widely available, but all of them highlight just how legendary this fish is in the tackle world.
