My Salt Life Experience

Even if you're hundreds of miles from the ocean, you’ve probably seen signs of Salt Life on the backs of various vehicles. If you’ve always wondered what that meant, or why those decals were there, you should know that this “lifestyle brand” makes lots of women’s fishing clothing that is breathable, UV protective and flattering – something that is not always easy to find in one package.

I’ve never been 36x24x36, and at this point in my life, half past the start, I’ve realized that it just ain’t gonna happen. In order to get sun protection, historically I would normally just purchase what Pete bought in a smaller men’s size, but that led to problems -- I looked dumpy in pictures and just didn’t feel good in the clothes. The sleeves were too long, the extra fabric got stuck around the rod handle, etc.

Then I was introduced to Salt Life’s ladies apparel, an extensive lineup that includes dresses, performance fishing shirts, t-shirts, tanks, shorts and pants. The colors and patterns are fun and different. Many of the shorts come in 4- and 5-inch inseams with fuller back coverage as well. If you have nice legs flaunt them, but if you don’t you really shouldn’t. I don’t, so the longer inseam is much appreciated. They also have leggings and sports bras that double as swim wear.

It's not just traditional clothing, either. One of the Salt Life articles I own is the Laguna Shiny Silver Grey Horn sunglasses, in petro green. Their polarized sunglasses are made in Italy, have snag proof nose pads and are lightweight. These specific frames fit my large cranium without sitting on my cheekbones and having sweat pool up on the bottom of the lenses. The temple arms are thin so your suntan marks aren’t impossible to cover up when going from sun to fun.
