Smoke Gets in Your Eyes – A Yamamoto Senko Primer
If you limited me to two colors of Senkos, I’m pretty sure that I could get by with Green Pumpkin (#297) and Black with Large Blue Flake (#021). Fortunately, that limitation hasn’t been levied yet – and my pegboard, bins and storage containers prove that I’ve got a color for every situation. There are probably five or six that get the most usage, but several others that I save for special circumstances.
One end of the color palette that I don’t dip into quite enough is Smoke. It’s been a western desert lake staple for decades, and also excels on smallmouth and spotted bass fisheries, and of course it can be prime for imitating shad and other baitfish.
Not surprisingly, Yamamoto Baits, born and based by Lake Powell, has plenty of smoky options. Here are a bunch in the Senko alone:
Smoke -- 002
Smoke Black Flake -- 150
Smoke Black & Purple Flake – 157
Smoke Black & Silver Flake -- 177
Smoke Black Blue & Chartreuse Flake -- 214
Smoke Rootbeer Green & Copper Flake – 236
Smoke Black & Hologram Flake -- 238
Smoke Pearl Blue – 240
Smoke Blue Pearl Silver Purple & Black Flake — 359
Smoke Shad – 958
And here are a few others that aren’t at TW, but you can buy directly from Yamamoto and elsewhere:
Smoke Purple & Hologram Laminate -- 927
Smoke Purple & Blue Flake, Watermelon Blue Flake – 953
