In a World Full of Urchins Sometimes You Still Need to Roll the Dice

Two pink fuzzy dice hanging

It was just a few years ago that Japanese pros including Kyoya Fujita and Taku Ito introduced us to “dice baits” like those from OSP, but those days are starting to feel like ancient history. At this year’s ICAST show in Orlando, the dice were largely drowned out by urchin mania – which included not only Coike-style baits, but also rigging methods and storage solutions for them.‍ ‍

But the dice haven’t gone anywhere quite yet. Several manufacturers continue to produce them and some even came out with new dice solutions. We caught up with several top pros as well as a leading importer of JDM tackle who explained when, where and why to use these fuzzy nuggets.
