Putting on the “Fishy 15” in Guatemala

Casa Vieja Lodge entree Guatemala shrimp

From the moment you drive through the gates of Casa Vieja Lodge, step out of the van and receive the “Drink of the Day,” you know that the food and libations are going to be great. That first taste of the amazing local ingredients in your glass are just the “teaser” for everything you’ll be served daily, on land and on water.

It starts with Guatemalan morning coffee delivered to your room with a wake-up call, followed immediately by your choice of breakfast served in Café Pez Vela. There’s a hot lunch cooked onboard your boat (no soggy sandwiches, unless that’s what you’re craving), and if you are lucky it could be your fresh catch of the day. Upon your return from fishing an array of appetizers are served poolside and if you still have any room there’s a fabulous four-course dinner served in the Rancho.

If something doesn’t tickle your taste buds the chef is more than willing to make you something else just as delicious. Here’s a taste of what we ate on our visit to Casa Vieja. It would be an incredible experience based on the fishing or the food alone, but combined it’s just out of this world.
