Going Back to Cali – For New Kinds of Bass
California was one of the first places I ever rode in a bass boat – Lake Castaic, in March of 1994 – and I’ve been back a couple of times to fish tournaments on the Delta, but it’s been nearly two decades. That’ll change in June when Hanna and I head west for a family wedding, and then we’re going to stay on to fish a day or two with our friends Oliver and Riley Ngy.
They have access to all sorts of species, from giant largemouths to spots to tuna, but the group that has me the most jacked up are the saltwater species like calico bass. I’ve heard about them for years and crave a taste. Here’s Oliver talking about how, when and where he chases them:
