Delta will resuscitate its MSP-MZT direct flight route, making it much easier for northern anglers to escape to Lake El Salto and Lake Picachos during the coldest times of year.

It’s been a tough couple of years for the airlines, and even worse for anglers headed to Mexico. Between route reshuffling, delays and cancellations, no trip is safe, and few have been easy. American Airlines has taken the brunt of the blame, fairly or not. There may be a slight bit of light at the end of the tunnel.

American Airlines flight options to Mazatlán have remained more or less stable since we started traveling to Anglers Inn, they’re far from ideal, and other carriers have been in and out of the space. Therefore we’re always looking for good news for our fellow traveling anglers. There may be an option coming from Allegiant and Viva Aerobus.

Just as our friends in Canada may want to escape the frigid winter for a fishing trip to El Salto or Picachos, so too will anglers in the northeastern U.S. benefit from a little bit of R&R South of the Border. If you’re coming to Mazatlán from anywhere along the I-95 corridor, you’re likely going to have to make  stops in Dallas, Phoenix, LA or Mexico City.

The international travel restrictions to and from Canada have been relaxed just in time to start planning for winter getaways, and if you’re a Canadian angler there’s no better place to spend time during the “hard water” months than Mexico – specifically Lake El Salto and Lake Picachos. Fortunately, there are great direct flight options.
