Aggregated Guide to Tackle For Bass Fishing in Mexico

Bass tackle for fishing Lake El Salto and Lake Picachos Mexico

Prior to just about every trip South of the Border, friends, clients and internet acquaintances ask us about packing the right tackle and enough of it. I wish there was a proven formula for every given day of the year – as in “Bring exactly five of X, 10 of Y and 12 of Z and you’ll be completely covered,” but there’s not. It’s fishing, and the only rule is that you have to expect the unlikely.

Each year we get emails and texts chiding us for recommending Senkos, Power Worms or 10XDs that travelers never used. Sorry, we had you covered. They may come into play next time. They almost surely will if you leave them at home.

When packing, here are the three critical rules to follow:

Have a little bit of everything and a lot of the proven winners;

Just because the conditions are the same as last year doesn’t mean they’ll eat the same things this time; and

It’s not a fashion show. The lodge does your laundry every day, so max out your luggage with lures, not clothing.

So, without further explanation, here are the articles that comprise our road map to gear prep. They may not apply equally to every angler, every guide or every trip, but ignore them at your own risk.

All of this gear can be purchased from Tackle Warehouse prior to your next trip.

Don’t forget, you can find all of our Mexico content at “The Ultimate Guide to El Salto and Picachos.”
