Baitcasting Rods Six Feet Four and Under
When I started bass fishing in the 1980s, a 6’6” baitcasting rod was considered the gold standard. Now I use relatively few baitcasters under 7’ – maybe something in the 6’8 to 6’10” range for some jerkbaiting or close quarters finesse topwaters, but that’s about it. In fact, I probably have more rods over 7’2” than under.
Nevertheless, there may be circumstances where a shorter rod is advantageous. Maybe you want to get a small child his or her first baitcasting rod (or put their spincast reel on a quality stick). Or perhaps you’re fishing in places with lots of overhanging limbs and vines, or trying bait finesse (BFS). In that case, we’ve done the legwork for you. There are a few that are under six feet:
