A Clear Choice in Walk-the-Dog Topwaters

Years ago, a friend taught me about the power of a Clear Super Spook – especially in calm, clear conditions or when fish are otherwise finicky – by outfishing me while I used what I thought was a pretty comparable lure. Throwing a clear walk-the-dog topwater doesn’t give bass a good look at their target, but still provides ample surface disturbance to call them from a distance.

The following options are the “true clears,” -- not “Chartreuse Clear” or “Clear Blue Back” or other tinted versions — just the genuine transparent versions. Some may have minimal detailing or go by a different name, but all fit the category.

If you don’t like the “ghost” look, you can always paint over the blanks — but it’s worth keeping a few of these clear baits handy. When the water’s flat and the fish are spooky, they can be your best option for getting bites others miss.
