Lures to Imitate Japan’s Yamame, Also Known as “Cherry Trout”

While American bass were imported to Japan, once there they had to adapt to native baitfish and forage species, many of which do not live in North America. These include several popular target species, like Ayu, as well as some that are less known. One of the latter is Yamame, a prized small native trout sometimes also referred to as “Cherry Trout.”

Not surprisingly, it’s generally but not exclusively JDM companies that try to replicate this pattern. Still, even if you live outside of Japan, they look enough like rainbow trout that it’s worth investing in a few of the following favorites:

And if you like variety, the mad scientists at Megabass are all-in on matching the hatch with Yamame. For example, the Megabass Great Hunting GH64 FS Humpback (from left to right — AL Indicator Yamame, LZ Chart Back Yamame and Takumi Yamame):

And Ima offers both Yamame and Pearl Yamame in their Issen 45S Max Minnow and Sukari 50SS Minnow.

As well as Gold Yamame in the Twig 60 Minnow.
