Multi-Colored Braided Lines: Camouflage, Striped & Depth-Marked Options

Multicolored braided fishing line over a camouflage background

Braided line options for bass anglers have exploded in variety since the category first appeared just 30 years ago. In those early years, it was mostly white ‘kite line’ and a few shades of green. Today, advances in braid construction are matched by an equally impressive array of technique-specific colors and color blends, giving anglers looking for an edge more ways than ever to match their line to the water, lure, and fishing conditions.

There are still plenty of low-visibility greens and browns to blend in with natural backgrounds, especially areas full of vegetation. Increasingly, however, we see bright yellows, greens, pinks and oranges. They’re great for “line watchers” when used on spinning gear with a fluorocarbon leader.

That’s not the only innovation, however. There are also a bunch of multi-colored choices. They generally fall into these categories and purposes:

  • Camouflage – Made to blend in for spooky or otherwise careful bass.

  • Depth-Marked – Made with alternating sections of different colors so that you can count off how deep your lure is sitting or how long your trolled line might be.

  • Increased visibility – The hi-vis colors are great for detecting bites, but in some cases the contrast between two sections improves visibility even more.

Just as the color and color combinations have changed, so too have other aspects of these lines. They come in an incredible range of strengths (not just 30, 50, 65, but also numbers like 18 and 22), different weaves (4-strand vs. 8 strand) and other characteristics like coatings and sinking formulations. There’s no longer a one-size-fits-most product and that gives all of us the opportunity to catch more bass.
