Protection for Down Under from Down Under
For a non-contact sport, fishing provides a lot of opportunities for the old frank and beans to end up in a world of hurt. My most poignant and painful recent example occurred in Mag Bay last November. As we moved the rod toward the gimbal in the rod belt, the fish surged, the rod butt slipped and I ended up with a case of crushed nuts.
Whether you “dress left” or “dress right,” the thing always feels like it’s one misstep away from ending up in a meat grinder.
It’s why we appreciate the ingenuity of products such as the Cush-It when we’re chasing sailfish and tuna.
But the Aussies have gone even further. A company called Lo-Cab wins the Truth in Advertising award for their Dick Pad Shorts.
Catchy slogan: “If you don’t want to use your Dick as a pad, get a pair of these.”
Subtle? Not exactly.
Effective? Judging by the design, probably.
The shorts feature extra padding exactly where anglers fighting big fish tend to appreciate it most, helping cushion those inevitable rod-butt impacts during prolonged battles.
Even if you don’t need those (either because you have different genitalia or you don’t intend to fight big fish, or for any other reason) they offer up a bunch of other cool gear.
