Strike King’s Texas-Sized Imprint
Strike King Lure Company may have been born in Tennessee, and may currently be headquartered in South Carolina, but their long-term intersection with Texas is indisputable.
Company stalwarts like the late Phil Marks and Todd Castledine were raised there and developed many signature products in the Lone Star State. The only place that could convince longtime Strike King pro Denny Brauer to leave Lake of the Ozarks is Lake Amistad in Del Rio.
And of course won hundreds of thousands of dollars down there, including wins at Rayburn and Lewisville. The latter tournament-winning catch even included a lake record bass caught on a Strike King Finesse Worm rigged on a shakey head.
Of course you can use industry-wide standards like black/blue, watermelon, green pumpkin and red bug when you tote Strike King’s products to Texas (or anywhere else for that matter), but the following are some colors made specifically with their big fish waters in mind:
Soft Plastics
Big Tex
Falcon Lake Craw
Amistad Special
Hard Baits
Sam Rayburn Red Craw
East Texas Special
Jigs
Texas Craw
Falcon Lake Craw
Strike King Lures That Make Me Think of Texas
Strike King 10XD Crankbait – Phil Marks won an FLW tournament on Rayburn by a huge margin before this lure was officially produced. It also tempted my personal best Mexican bass.
Strike King 6XD Crankbait – I’ve spent a lot of time in the boat with Keith Combs, who came in 2nd to Marks in the tournament mentioned above. He’s won hundreds of thousands of dollars on the 6XD, including a 2013 Elite win on Falcon.
Strike King Perfect Plastic Zeus Worm – I had a great time as a co-angler in the famous, record-setting 2008 Elite event at Falcon. Almost every fish I caught was on a 10” worm, with a few on a lizard. I consistently wonder if I would have done even better with a 12” worm.
Strike King Rage Tail Lobster – Whether on the back of a jig, or flipped into bushes or grass, a monster craw will work from the far eastern edge of the state at Toledo Bend to as far west as there’s still water.
There are plenty of others that are exceptional – from the Red Eye Shad to the Thunder Cricket to the Hack Attack Heavy Cover Swim Jig. Of course I’m dying to sling the Hog Father Jr Glide Bait, too. Texas has something for every bass angler, and Strike King makes it easy to shop for the state’s varied waters.
