Yellowfin Tuna on the Menu

Yellowfin tuna silhouette with small sickles

One of the most vibrant memories from our last trip to Sport Fish Panama Island Lodge was the sight of school-sized yellowfin tuna frantically leaping clear out of the water in an attempt to escape from some other predator – assumedly marlin. We’ve been so impressed with big tuna as an apex predator to target that I hadn’t previously considered that there was someone out there (other than me) who wants to eat them. Judging from some of the offshore tackle houses, though, it’s no secret. There are plenty of hard lures, skirted lures and dredges specifically meant to replicate one of our favorite gamefish. Check out a selection of them:

There’s no better place to catch marauding yellowfin tuna than at Sport Fish Panama Island Lodge. If you want to see the real thing, fight them and then eat them as sushi or sashimi, shoot us an email and let’s get you down there on the hosted fishing trip of a lifetime.
