Meet Axel Howard: Welcome to the Tundra

There are a lot of reasons we love returning to Bear Trail Lodge, but the guides are at the top of the list. They are spectacular -- not only because they know the water and how to find the fish, but because they know how to teach.

Whether you have been fly fishing for years or have never picked up a fly rod, the guides at Bear Trail Lodge have a way of making you feel comfortable, teaching you what you need to know, and, most importantly, helping you catch fish!

On our most recent Alaska adventure, we spent several days on the water with Axel Howard, and he was superb. Axel knew the river, understood the fish, understood that Pete and I were there to catch big fish and although we are novice fly anglers helped guide and teach us in hooking into our matching PBs.
