Brazilian Visa Update for Anglers

After I blogged about the reinstated need for American anglers to get a visa to enter Brazil starting October 1, 2023, several readers wrote to say that they couldn’t get the online portal to work. I suspect that may be the reason that Brazil subsequently delayed the requirement.

As of today, the visa exemption for American, Canadian and Australian travelers will end on January 9, 2024. Thus, anglers traveling to Brazil to chase peacocks bass (or for any other reason) will need a visa in order to enter the country on January 10 or later.

Even better news for anglers coming from Japan to fish the Amazon – Japan and Asia have reached a reciprocity agreement which means no visa will be required to travel to one another’s countries.

The Brazilian government has indicated that they expect the online platform to be functional at least 30 days before the enforcement date.
