Reserve the Rum Line – November 2024

Rum Line Gamefisherman heading out to a day of fishing in Guatemala

After four straight February trips to Casa Vieja Lodge in Guatemala, we’re going to mix it up a bit by going in November of 2024. We already have nine of us signed up – four of us on The Finest Kind and a group of five led by my brother on the Pica Más, the fleet’s newest addition.

If you’d like to join us that week The Rum Line is still open. Hanna is happy to book you at any time, but by going during that same period not only do you and your group get to enjoy our company, but we can lead you through every step of the process in person.

We will be traveling November 16-20, and you will fish on the 17th, 18th and 19th.

Rum Line – The Boat

This 40 foot Gamefisherman was built in 1989. Originally called the Jolly Roger and then the Jungle Rules while operating in Costa Rica, she arrived in Guatemala in 2008 and recently completed a total renovation. She debuted a new, beautiful, classically updated sportfish on October 25, 2018, with dual Cummins QSC 500HP Engines. Other musts include a SIMRAD NSS evo2 12-inch, Blue Water Desalination maker, cold AC in the cabin, and new mezzanine deck seating. There is a kitchen so you will enjoy a hot lunch each day. The Rum Line will handle up to five anglers, but three or four is the perfect number in my opinion.

The Rum Line’s Captain

During the 2022-23 season, the Rum Line was operated by Captain Terry Brennan, and we expect that will be the case this upcoming season as well. Capt. Terry is originally from New Jersey and Manteo, NC was “home” for him for 20 years before coming to Guatemala in 2018. He brought years of private charter boat experience from the waters of the Outer Banks, South Florida, Kona, Bermuda, Dominican Republic, and more. The Captain will be assisted by two mates.

How About the Fishing?

There are of course no guarantees in fishing, even in an amazing fishery like the calm Pacific waters of Guatemala. Nevertheless, take a look at the Rum Line’s November 2022 results for the Rum Line and you may want to jump all over this:

Chart of Rum Line catches November 2022 Casa Vieja Lodge Guatemala
  • That’s an average of just over 20 sailfish raises a day and an average of just over 15 sailfish landed per day.

  • Of course, the averages are bolstered by that day-of-a-lifetime on the 13th, with 58 sails raised and 45 landed, plus three “bonus” mahi.

  • The best day for mahi was the 4th, when they landed 14 of the great tasting fish.

  • Even the “worst sailfish day,” November 20th, when they raised six and landed three, was still an incredible overall performance, with a marlin landed and three tuna and 12 mahi added to the fish box.
