A Bear Trail Lodge Bonus: Smoked Salmon

Pete Robbins Naknek River King Salmon

There are some places that feel like home the moment you walk through the door and Bear Trail Lodge is at the top of the list for me. I am beyond excited to be heading back with a group of over a dozen this upcoming summer and I can’t wait for them to experience the incredible fishing but also the scrumptious food.

The fishing at Bear Trail Lodge is beyond incredible. You’ll experience unexplainable sites from the air, enjoy unforgettable catches and more likely than not you’ll see once-in-a-lifetime wildlife interactions before your trip ends. But there is something extra special about coming back to the lodge after a full day out on the water or trekking through the tundra, knowing you’re about to sit down for a meal that is as good as a five-star restaurant (and that’s if you can still eat after the appetizers).

On our last trip to Bear Trail Lodge, I begged then-Chef, Kevin to teach me some things I could do with the salmon we brought home. You see, one of the greatest perks of catching fish on the river is that you can bring them home as luggage. You can have salmon all throughout the year. You can give it to family and friends and have them taste what you caught and then they will start planning their trip to the lodge.

Let’s watch what Chef Kevin said about smoking salmon and then he teaches us how to make lox. It’s a lot easier than I thought.
