Alaska Rockfish Tattoos – Inked Memories of the Saltwater Frontier
On our multiple trips to Bear Trail Lodge in Bristol Bay, salmon and rainbow trout are our main quarry, but we always try to tack on a saltwater charter out of Seward or Homer. Those trips give us the chance to battle giant fish, fill our freezers, and add new memories to our Alaska adventure.
While our stated targets are usually barn-door halibut and prehistoric lingcod, we also get a thrill out of catching the colorful and diverse Pacific rockfish. The black rockfish look remarkably like largemouth bass, and the yelloweye and canary rockfish stand out with fiery oranges and reds. They also happen to make some of the best fish tacos we’ve ever had.
It’s no surprise that hardcore saltwater anglers are memorializing these species with body art. Check out these artists who have inked striking Pacific rockfish tattoos:
While we don’t work directly with any coastal Alaskan charters, we’re happy to recommend some if you’ll be on or near the Kenai region. Join us at Bear Trail Lodge and with just a few more days in the 49th state you can double up your fun and your haul – and possibly gain inspiration for your next tattoo.
