Caiman Eye Tattoos – South American Wildlife Ink Inspiration

Hunting Caiman at night Rio Negro Brazil

While we’ve encountered plenty of alligators throughout the US, along with the intermittent crocodile, in South America caiman is the name of the game. We hunted and ate them on trips to the Rio Negro portion of Amazonas, and we expect to see more on our upcoming fishing trips to Argentina and Bolivia.

During the day you might catch a glimpse of a caiman sunning on the bank. But at night, shining a flashlight or floodlight over the water reveals dozens -- sometimes hundreds -- of glowing caiman eyes reflecting back at you. It’s eerie, unforgettable, and makes a powerful image for tattoo designs that symbolize stealth, mystery and survival. They’ll serve as a lasting memory of your jungle and wetland fishing adventures.

Here are some of our favorites.
