Built to Scale – The Best Arapaima Replicas

Arapaima Replica at SCI Nashville

While making my annual rounds of the Nashville SCI show looking at the taxidermy – not just big game like bears and elephants, but also the usual range of oddities – I eventually came across a replica that I’d never seen in person: the arapaima (AKA, pirarucu), the largest scaled freshwater fish.

The proprietor of the booth told me it had been created by King Sailfish Mounts. There aren’t all that many others I can find, but there are a few, and they reflect the regional differences of the fish around the globe.

German Perez of Amazona Wild Art, who we’ve interviewed before, seems to have produced the greatest and most varied selection of arapaima replicas – deserving of a gallery of its now.
