On multiple voyages to Bear Trail Lodge in Bristol Bay we’ve made a pre-trip down to Seward to further fill our freezer. The barn door halibut are a blast, and the various species of colorful rockfish keep rods bent, but the dragon-like lingcod serve as an occasional reminder of the region’s prehistoric roots.

It’s no surprise that many anglers have chosen to commemorate their encounters with this ferocious predator through lingcod tattoos—permanent reminders of Alaska’s rugged waters and the memories made while fishing them.
