Chugging the Choupique

Choupique Beer De Kromme Haring Barrel Aged Tripel with three bowfin fish

When I outlined the various products and items related to bowfin (aka, “choupique”), I included bands, art, apparel and food, but not alcohol. That’s a mistake, because if there’s any fish that’ll drive you to drink while you’re fishing bass tournaments, it’s our friend the mudfish.

Apparently our friends abroad beat us to it, as De Kromme Haring in the Netherlands (Motto: “The only thing we fear is shitty beer!”) offers a Chopique Belgian Tripel – “A big and warming beer with hints of banana, vanilla, almond paste and citrus peel. A perfective digestive after a festive meal or for a cozy night in on a winter night.”

Three Bottled Beers from De Kromme Haring

What makes it even cooler is that if you dive deeper into their website, they have all sorts of fish-themed beers, and not just your usual suspects like dainty trout or big game billfish – there are Fugu and Mudskipper and Warmouth and Cuttlefish. If I ever find myself thirsty in Utrecht, I know my first fishy stop.
