Hanna Robbins in New Orleans French Quarter

The Mississippi River starts at Lake Itasca, Minnesota, heads into Wisconsin, and then runs over two thousand miles before dumping out into the Gulf of Mexico in South Louisiana. Somewhere along the way, the English language gets changed – substantially.

On a recent trip to South Louisiana, Hanna, who is from Chicago and has spent ample time in Wisconsin, sat down with our friend Andy Crawford, a son of the southern swamp. We tried to test them with a regional vocabulary quiz. Check out the video below:

If you’d like to join us on a trip to any of our domestic and international fishing destinations, we’re happy to try to serve as cultural and linguistic sherpas. We’d be particularly excited to send you down for a swamp photography seminar in South Louisiana with Mr. Crawford – just send us an email (in standard English, please) and we’ll get the planning started.
