Kyle Patrick’s Money Colors -- Missile Baits Magic Worm

Kyle Patrick Missile Baits Magic Worm

New York bass pro Kyle Patrick considers himself a versatile angler, but he’s also exceptionally disciplined about using lures that he knows will work,  especially in high pressure situations or on tough fisheries. That’s why he just about always has a Missile Baits Magic Worm on the deck of his boat in some capacity, and sometimes he has them rigged in different ways on multiple rods.

The Magic Worm, which comes in both 4-inch and 6-inch versions, is soft yet durable, and while it doesn’t have wiggling appendages or a big action tail, that’s exactly the point --- it’s subtle and applicable to a wide variety of situations.

Patrick carries a wide range of colors in his boat, but if you’re looking to make an initial investment in his go-to lure, try some of these:

Missile Baits Magic Worm Bruiser Flash

“This is the color that helped me make the Elite Series. I think it’s the best black/blue variation out there. I got made fun of on the Opens for throwing a black and blue worm, but you can make fun of me all you want if that’s the case. It’s especially good on places with a little tint like the James River, places that are maybe a 6 out of 10 in dirtiness. I also like it in tannic water in Florida.”

Missile Baits Magic Worm Missile Morning

“On those super-clear herring lakes like Hartwell, the fish seem to like something pink, so Missile Morning and John’s Juice work really well. I’ve heard it shows up gray to them. It may seem weird to us, but it’s a spotted bass and largemouth bass catcher.”

Missile Baits Magic Worm PB&J Time

“This is another color that people associate with jigs, but I love it in just about any water color. It covers all of the different colors you need, including natural brown, pink or purple. I used it in stumps at Wheeler, in the Barge Pits on the James River and at Hartwell.”

Missile Baits Magic Worm Blueback Secret

“Just an excellent natural color for super-clear water. I find it to be especially good for northern largemouths on places like Cayuga. I fish it in the grass and around rockpiles and they seem to really like it.”
