Is it a Frog or a Zara Spook?
Do you remember the Mann’s Ghost and its younger brother the Goblin?
They were hollow bodied lures with flush hooks, shaped like a Zara Spook topwater.
The idea was good, but the product itself seemed subpar. I don’t believe I ever owned them, but the guy who sold me my first bass boat in 1996 fished them over the Potomac’s grass quite a bit. He got some hellacious strikes, but I don’t remember him landing – or even hooking – any of them. Maybe it was because he wasn’t using braid, or perhaps he pulled the trigger too soon, but I have a feeling it was the lure’s design.
Nevertheless, the idea was a good one. We’ve spent the last couple of decades trying to walk the dog with various frog style lures. Most of us can do it reasonably well. But what if you want a more elongated body? There are options for that. Check out some of these:
And Snag Proof, one of the early innovators in the frog space, is all-in on this category, with versions in multiple sizes and one with a rear propeller.
