While we haven’t yet caught any giant calico bass (already planning a return trip to Southern California) our first taste of them was magical. Not only do they pull hard, but pictures don’t do them justice – you need to see them up close to understand their distinctive patterns and deep coloration.

It’s no surprise that so many west coast anglers obsess about them, and a few even have tattoos commemorating this salty bass. Check out a few that we found:
