Looking for Fishing-Themed Houses
As our global fishing adventures multiply, Hanna and I continue to see our house progressively fill up with relics and memories of the angling lifestyle. There are replicas and well-worn lures and pictures of the people who’ve shaped our trips. I love it and while I doubt we’ll ever have a giant house to contain everything we hope to do, I do hope that someday we’ll run out of wall and shelf space. That’ll be the sign of a life well-lived.
Recently I came across the Flylords series of videos showing off great fly anglers’ homes. Here are two examples:
A Home Fully Dedicated to Tarpon - Andy Mill's Florida Fish House | Fish Houses
A Montauk Beach Home Dedicated to Striped Bass - Paul Dixon's Long Island Fish House | Fish Houses
It reminded me of the old “Cribs” series on the Bass Zone, where the hosts explored pro anglers’ homes, shops and trophy rooms. I lived for those. Fortunately, B.A.S.S. has continued the series with their production team. Here are a few great videos:
Major League Fishing has also picked up on that theme with their “Bass Cave” videos in the past few years. Here are a few of my examples:
But here’s what I haven’t seen: man caves and fishing shrines from regular anglers. Sure, I’ve gotten tastes of a few great ones through social media, but I’m sure that there are many anglers across the country and across the globe who have built lasting road map of their exceptional fishing lives.
They’re not necessarily tournament pros or guides or tackle innovators, but rather regular men and women who’ve devoted themselves to a life on the water – and bring the receipts.
If you know such a person, and think they’d consent to a tour of their home, we’d love to meet up. We travel enough of the country in the course of a year that they may not be far out of our path and we’ll detour a bit to get the goods. Shoot us an email and let’s make them famous.
