Giant Trevally Style: A Buttoned-Down Approach for the Traveling Angler
Considering that I’ve yet to catch one – or even fish where they live – my obsession with the Giant Trevally (AKA “GT” or “Ulua”) may seem a little bit unhealthy. On the contrary, though, I think it’s important for traveling anglers to have an aspirational fish or two, one that establishes an archetype of what a great target should be. The GTs grow big, live in exotic locales, pull hard and produce epic topwater strikes. That’s why I’m so obsessed.
So while I can’t fully know what to expect until I’m actually fighting one, I can prepare for the trip that will eventually happen – and while the tropical sun while necessitate long sleeves, hoodies and/or buffs on the water, on travel days or while telling fish tales over dinner I’ll want to class it up with a button down shirt.
