Sportyfish Shirts Deliver Style

Sportyfish peacock bass shirt singapore pavon tucunare apparel

Old Mark Zuckerberg apparently knows what he is doing, because one of my targeted ads last year hit me square between the temples and lured me in: Sportyfish shirts from Singapore. Their catalog reads like a “who’s who” of my bucket list fish – peacock bass, giant trevally, yellowfin tuna, sailfish and others.

I took a flier on a gray heathered peacock bass t-shirt with Japanese writing that I believe translates to “Stealth Stalker.” I just hope that the language translates accurately, and that I haven’t been punked like one of those gaijin who gets a tattoo in Hanzi or Kanji that turns out to read something altogether unintended (“My buddy has ‘illiterate foreigner’ in traditional Chinese characters.” Or even better: “This complete asshat of a guy at the detachment I was with whose back tat read ‘child changing station.’ He told everyone it was something like ‘strength, loyalty, determination.").

Anyway, for the not-entirely-unreasonable price of $36 with shipping included, I received one of my favorite shirts, one of the few distinctive peacock bass garments I’ve seen. If you get one, just be sure to order it in a slightly larger size, as apparently in Singapore people are not quite as porky as quarantined North Americans. They also have hoodies, board shorts and other items.

[Alas, after writing this I realized the Sportyfish may have gone the way of the dinosaurs. Their website no longer operates and their last post on Facebook was on January 6, 2020. I sent them a message through social media, which they opened but no response was forthcoming. Still, if you can find them at other retailers or on the web I highly recommend their products.]
