The first musky that I landed was not a “true” musky at all, but rather a tiger musky – a cross between a muskellunge and a northern pike. At the time, they weren’t common in Lake St. Clair, and my guide Matthew Quintano was surprised when it hit the net. In the seven or eight years since then, they’ve become more common at St. Clair, which most serious anglers seem to think is a mixed blessing. Nevertheless, when I finally caught a musky worthy of a replica, it was a pure strain version that Hanna had Lax Reproductions replicate as a surprise gift. I’m thrilled with the 51-incher, even if I think the tigers tend to be prettier. If and when I catch a big tiger, maybe we’ll add one to the wall. Here are some of the ones I’ve found online:
