Simple Potomac River Soft Plastics Starter Set

Soft plastic lures for Potomac River milfoil

If you’re just getting into bass fishing generally, or river fishing in particular, it’s hard to winnow down the list of soft plastics that you’ll need. I know that even after 30-plus years on the Potomac River I still carry way too much stuff in the boat. While there are definitely specific situations that require niche tools, I still have sizes, shapes and colors that I’m unlikely to ever use.‍ ‍

No, I’m not KVD or Bryan Schmitt, but these are the soft plastics that continue to produce for me – and that I see more often than not in the pros’ boats.‍ ‍

You might have your personal favorites, and if I were to add one more it would be a dropshot worm like the Roboworm or Berkley Flat Worm, but don’t go overboard. The key is to keep a bait wet where they live.‍ ‍
