African Tigerfish Tattoos That Bite Back

Zambezi River tigerfish mouth

Our 2016 trip to Zambia to chase tigerfish was an exercise in both frustration and triumph. These toothy fish are so incredibly fast and powerful that of every ten that struck our lures we probably hooked four or five and landed one or two.

Sometimes they’d jump and the lure would work free of their bony jaws. Other times they’d simply overpower us. Either way, when we finally landed one – particularly when Hanna captured the lodge’s season’s best 14-pounder, we felt a mix of relief and exhilaration. It’s the type of fishing adventure that could spawn and inspire one of the following tattoos.

Now that we have more space on our calendar for long-haul fishing journeys we’re building the outline of a return trip to Africa, possibly to Tanzania – for giant tigerfish as well as offshore pelagics and possibly a safari. If that appeals to you, shoot us an email and we’ll keep you informed as the plans progress.
